Getting around TheBabywearer Forums
Welcome to TBW! You are probably here because the idea of a baby carrier sounded like a good idea, but need more information. It is amazing how many baby carriers there are to choose from nowadays! Even more amazing is how many resources TBW has for helping you make that choice. I'm hoping this article will help you navigate the maze of information available for choosing a carrier.
The best place to start is with the article What type of baby carrier is right for me? If you haven't read it yet, go and read it now!
However, even after reading the articles, comparison charts, and looking through the reviews, the choices can be overwhelming. So, next stop, TBW forums!
A great place to start is with the Finding Your Way at TBW forum, to get posting guidelines, technical help, etc. Be sure to read the stickies at the top of the forums, since they address many of the frequently asked questions.
For instance, let's imagine I've narrowed down my choice of carrier type, but there are so many brands with great reviews, I don't know which one to choose. Or maybe there are still 2 or 3 major types of carriers that seem like they would work in my situation. I'll head to the Choosing and Comparing Types of Carriers forum, and explain my dilemma. Probably someone will ask questions to get more details, in order to help narrow down my choices to not only a type of carrier, but one or two brands of that type of carrier.
Another good way to choose a carrier is to meet with other babywearers in your area. Check out the Babywearers Near You forum, as well as www.nineinnineout.org.
Then, color choices! Some carriers are available in a dazzling array of fabrics. Off to the Chat Forums for each carrier type, to get help in choosing a fabric from those who have seen them in real life (or not).
Once you've figured out what you want, you have to figure out where to get it! TBW has vendor reviews for vendors all over the globe for both new and used carriers, as well as the For Sale or Trade forum, popularly known as FSOT. Be sure to read the stickies here for posting guidelines, since all sales or trades are done at your own risk. As a new member, posting a link to feedback from another site will help build a level of trust. Checking member feedback is always a good idea before closing a deal.
Or maybe you aren't ready to purchase a carrier and want to try making one yourself. TBW has lots of great links in the DIY section, as well as a great DIY forum with lots of tips and tricks.
So, you've purchased a carrier. Many are only available online, unless you are lucky to live near a vendor or buy one at a babywearing meeting.
So, now you are waiting! Head on over to Babywearing Chat, where you can commiserate while waiting for your fluffy mail.
Once you get your new carrier, you'll probably have more questions about how to use it! Head over to the appropriate Using forum for the type of carrier you're learning to use, as well as the many articles on using your babycarrier. Posting pictures really helps if you need help. You can post babywearing pictures right here in our Photo Gallery, and then feel free to share those pictures in our Babywearing Chat forum so your fellow TBW members can admire your beautiful new carriers (aka fluffies).
Please don't ever hesitate to ask questions in the Finding Your Way at TBW forum, or use the Webmaster contact form.
